California's world famous Wine Country lies north
of San Francisco Bay, a good hour's drive from San Francisco across the
Golden Gate Bridge or the Bay Bridge. California produces over 90 percent
of America's wines and the cream of the crop comes from the Wine Country.
The Wine Country comprises several valleys, Napa and Sonoma being the
most visited. North of here lie the Russian River and Alexander Valleys,
and bit further north the Lake County and Mendocino County with its Anderson
Valley wineries. San Jose and Monterey areas south of San Francisco also
have winery tours. The valleys have hundreds of wineries (around 250 in
Napa alone), historic towns such as Sonoma with the last Spanish mission
built in California and the oldest winery Buena Vista, beautiful nature
and plenty of activities from mud baths and spas to horseback riding and
hot balloon rides.
